A wife of a much different age is listed with James in the 1850 census, so either this wife died, or they divorced. There is a good possibility that they divorced because by the 1850 census at least 1 or more of the younger children, especially the two youngest sons (ages 11-14) should also be in his household in the 1850 census, but they are not. ¹⁰²
