This is a transcript of the permission slip to Judge Thomas Street, Marshall County, State of Alabama, from James R. Sutton for Sinthy Ashburn & Vance Sutton to get a marriage license: "You will let the boy have marriage license for Vance Sutton and Sinthy Ann Ashburn. I the undersigned father of Vance Sutton. James R. Sutton. Sworn to by C.C.Ashburn & Vance Sutton. witnessed by; C.C.Ashburn & Vance Sutton."
Vance Sutton signed his marriage certificate with an "X".
Marriage: Ellis County, Texas Marriage Certificate for V.B. Sutton and E.E. Mathews on 3 November 1904. Copy of certificate in hands of Lawrence J. Gunnels, a great grandson.
Vance may have owned the Sutton Hotel in Ada, Poutotoc Co., Oklahoma from 1898 to 1907 (according to Jeanne Cain's research).
