There are two dates of marriage listed in the same source, pg 39 and pg 114. The reason for this discrepancy isn't known. However, it's odd that their son George W. was born Apr. 3, 1842, because that date preceeds their updated marriage date of Jul. 12, 1842. It could mean that they first married on Dec. 14, 1840, divorced, and remarried, or possibly obtained a marriage license but didn't marry until about 19 months later, and that George W. was born out-of-wedlock, or that the original handwriting wasn't clear. It could also be that Dec. 14, 1840 is the day that their dad's betrothed them with some sort of pledge. Then, during that period, as maybe typical of all hormone energized youth, she became pregnant. The betrothal was in place, dates set, so the dad's decided that they'd go through with the wedding as planned and maybe she wouldn't show much, but then again, she was 6-mos. pregnant, so that part doesn't hold water. This latter supposition might prove to be correct. I tend to believe this was the case because it's very common for me to see where a transcriber flippantly wrote down a marriage date, when it was truly a license date, with the only problem being that the transcriber didn't read the form before drawing a conclusion; this is very common.
